Prenatal pills WITHOUT being pregnant

Dear Ask The Doctor: Can i take prenatal pills when im not pregnant?

Dear Tamara: Prenatal pills contain the same vitamins as regular multi vitamins with the addition of folic acid.

In fact, some multivitamins now contain 0.4mg -1.0mg of folic acid/day making them even more similar to prenatal vitamin pills.

There is no harm in taking prenatal vitmain pills as a daily multivitamin even if you are not pregnant or trying to get prganant.

The only thing to be concerned about is that they are sometimes more expensive and it may not be a cost effective option but it is safe from a health standpoint.
