Dear Ask The Doctor: Is a colon cleanser safe for someone who has had their large intestine removed and has had an ileostomy reversed over one year ago? Thank you Dear Claire: Since you have had your colon (large intestines) removed, a colon cleanser is not necessary. Using such a product would 'clean' your small intestines rather than your colon and could have some significant side effects such as profuse diarrhea. This could eventually result in severe dehydration and require hospitalization for correction |
