Torn ACL

Dear Ask The Doctor: I tore my right ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) almost 4 years ago while playing sports. I have done all the necessary rehab treatments for it yet I still seem to not have full range of motion. It also swells up at times. Is there anything I can do to get my range of motion back to full and keep the swelling down when doing activities.?

Dear Vincent: I would go and see your doctor to get a prescription of some anti-inflamatories such as celebrex. These help bring the swelling down and allow you to carry on with activities. I would also suggest visiting your physiotherapist on advice on getting your range of motion back. I recommend many range of motion exercises such as biking and stretching of the muscles attached to your knee. Hope this helps.
