I have gained about 35 pounds

Dear Ask The Doctor: About 6 months ago I started gaining weight.  I've put on about 35lbs.  I attributed that to moving into a position that was a desk job as opposed to something more physical.  I've noticed that my at rest heart rate is around 100bpm.  I've had difficulty sleeping and have compensated by increasing my alcohol intake.  For the last four weeks I have had diarrhea.  Some days are worse than others but I can be in the bathroom as many as 12-15 times. I also have the feeling of the neccesity to urinate, although I know I don't have to. As soon as the bowel movement is over I have this feeling that I have to go more... but I can't.  I'm also nauseated at times throughout the day.  I've never in my life been on the toilet and had to vomit... until now.  And it's happened several times.  I'm heterosexual with no chance of STD.  My girlfriend, who I live with, recently underwent antibiotic treatment for e-coli.  I don't know if this could be related.

Dear Ron: Please check back here frequently for a response to your question. Our team of physicians at Ask The Doctor will have a response to your question within the next few weeks.
