Dear Ask The Doctor: Which is better for you low carb or low calorie
Dear Cheryl: The basis of the low carb diet is controlling the blood sugar levels while a low calorie diet takes into account your total calorie intake, allowing intake of low to medium glycemic index carb foods but maintaining a watchful intake of only the required amount of calories, thus maintaining a gradual, long lasting weight loss. However following a low carb diet results in a faster weight loss because without carbs to provide energy, your body will breakdown fat in its place. This may not have long term maintenance of the desired weight. Thus I would recommend a low calorie diet for better results.
