Dear Christine: Phenphedrine contains a combination of dicaffine maleate, vit B6, B12, chocamine, phenylethylamine and evodiamine. The main concern here is phenyethylamine an amphetamine like substance. The side effects of the drugs includes palpitations, agitation, anxiety, photosensitization, nausea & vomiting, muscular twitching and breathlessness (a cause of concern with some suffering from asthma).
Phenphedrine may not be a good option in your case due to underlying asthma. A reason that you are failing to gain weight may be due to the medications you are getting for the treatment of asthma. Corticosteroids used in the treatment of asthma may lead to weight gain. The safest options for decreasing weight in asthma is by diet and activity. Eat lots of vegetables, increase the fiber in your diet, drink plenty of water, cut down on fat and learn about potion sizes. I wish you well, take care. |
