Swollen Feet |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I am seven months pregnant and my feet have started to swell. Even though there is no pain, are there some changes I need to make? Dear Erica: I understand your concern about swollen feet during pregnancy. I would like you to understand that this is a common presentation during pregnancy, since you are retaining more water than normal and your uterus is putting pressure in your returning veins. It would be normal to have swelling on the hands as well, however if you start to notice puffiness around your eyes and excessive and sudden selling of the hands and feet plus headaches, you might want to consult your physician immediately to rule out possible Pre eclampsia. To minimize the swelling on your feet you could put them up, take regular breaks from sitting or standing. A short walk every so often will help keep your blood circulating, Wear comfortable shoes that stretch to accommodate the swelling, exercise regularly by walking and drink plenty of fluids to stop your body from retaining water. This is a temporary condition and should not limit you. I wish you the best. |
