Dear Ask The Doctor: I was due on my period, a week ago and it still hasn't come, I'm due to take my pill again. Ive done a home pregnancy test which come back negative, is it possible i could be pregnant but not enough hormone in my urine for the test to detect? Dear Stacey: Hello, I know how concerned you are about possible pregnancy. A few explanations could be given. Sometimes oral contraceptives could alter your cycles and produce late menses or missed periods. Now, since you already took a pregnancy test and I will assume that you took it a week after your menses due day; I will suggest you to take another one in a couple of days and this time use the first urine of the day which carries the most hormone concentration that the test is looking for. If your results are negative again, then you should not worry about pregnancy and continue taking your active pills. I wish you the best. |
