Dormant Chlamydia |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My bf has recently started showing symptoms of chlamydia, and i dont have any symptoms. We went to the doctor to get tested but our results havent come back yet, but they still gave us the treatment for it. We both got tested before we started dating and were both negative. We have been together about 8 months, and i know that neither one of us have been unfaithful to each other. Is there any way it could have not should up on our first tests and have been layng dormant till now, and if so is there any way we can tell who would have had it to transfer to the other person? Dear Amanda: Chlamydia is the most commonly reported sexual transmitted disease in the United States, estimated at 4 million infections annually, with rates higher than 10% in sexually active adolescent females. In a high percentage of cases there are no symptoms, and then those individuals (men 25%-50% and women 70%-80%) can have Chlamydia for a long period of time without knowing it. But if you test those persons they come up with positive results. When you go to the doctor, he will order diagnostic tests that may include cultures or sending urine to the laboratory to determine if you are infected. The doctor may also test you for other sexually transmitted diseases because many patients with Chlamydia also have other infections such as gonorrhea or trichomonas. So to answer your questions, the test is very accurate and it is likely he caught the condition after the test done last year. Â Good luck |
