Sex after vaginal hysterectomy

Dear Ask The Doctor: I just had a vaginal hysterectomy about a week ago and I know my dr said no sexual intercourse for 6 weeks....can we do through the anal?
Dear Sisilia: I suggest waiting the six weeks as instructed by your surgeon before engaging any form of sexual intercourse. The posterior portion of the vagina is separated from the anterior portion of the anus by a layer of tissue which is only a few centimeters thick. Theoretically, you could cause damage to the area of the vagina that was sutured (stitiched) when the uterus was removed should you engage in anal intercourse. |
