Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been extremely tired and suffer with nasuea and abdominal pain and diahrea whenever I eat anything with fat in it as well as some other foods and drinks. My CM has also been jelly like but clear and I have been having problems with excessive gas. My doctor suggested that it could be Acid Reflux about 8mths ago but has done no testing to see if that is correct. I don't suffer with heartburn at all it's more of gut rot and it never goes above my belly.
Dear Teresa: The symptoms you describe nausea, diarrhoea, excess gas and abdominal pain could be suggestive of irritable bowel syndrome. This can only be diagnosed in the absence of other organic disease and requires a detailed history and clinical examination by your family doctor. The nausea could also be due to inflammation of the stomach (gastritis). Referral to a gastroenterologist may also be appropriate for further investigation such as endoscopy which visualises the lining of the gut through a camera lens, and may give you a definitive diagnosis. |
