Gastritis diagnosed on endoscopy

Dear Ask The Doctor: Why has a doctor seen a red (interior) of my stomach when I had an endoscopy done? His only determination to me was to take Prilosic.
Dear Kris: You may have gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) diagnosed by endoscopy. Treatment of gastritis involves the use of agents to reduce acid production in the stomach that can often aggravate the situation. These include proton pump inhibitors (Prilosec Omeprazole) or H2 receptor blockers. If this condition is left untreated, it can lead to ulceration and bleeding of the stomach. It is also important to avoid aspirin and NSAIDs such as ibuprofen. |
