Dear Ask The Doctor: Will pain from the apendix be in the back and be able to go into the leg if the pain is bad enough? asking for my my wife. she has had pain for the past 3 days and it is getting worse. it is in the area of what i have read on thie apendix pain.
Dear Melissa: The symptoms of appendicitis may vary slightly from person to person. Usually there is a vague abdominal pain centered at the navel. This pain then moves to the right lower quadrant of the abdomen and increases in severity. There is almost always a loss of appetite accompanied by nausea and vomiting and a fever. There may be a history of similar pain prior to this episode. Appendicitis is a more difficult diagnosis to make in women as they have several other conditions which may mimic appendicitis. These include ruptured ovarian cyst, torsion (twisting) of an ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy and infection of the fallopian tubes. In some rare instance leg and back pain can result from appendicitis when an abscess forms and involves some of the muscles of the back. Since she has had pain for three days she should see her physician for a full workup. |
