Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello - My mother is 64. She was in the hospital three years ago for intestinal blockage due to adhesion. She was given a ct. Fast forward to this week. She had a chest xray due to cold. The doctor's office called and said she must come in, the calcium noted in her chest lymph nodes three years ago, had increased. They want to run tests. This is the first she has heard of this problem. What could it be? Her appointment is next week. I am filling in the medical information below, as if she were answering the questions. Thank You
Dear Robin: I understand your concern about your mothers condition. If the report only says presence of calcium in the Lymph nodes, it might just only be due to previous infection that already remitted. However her Doctor might want to rule out other possibilities first due to the difference found in both imaging studies, some types of Dysplasia or diseases that can cause calcification of the lymph nodes such as Sarcoidosis could be suspected as well. Her physician might want to order more detailed imaging studies and some blood work. I wish her the best. |
