Dear Ask The Doctor: I had my right overy out 6 months ago and now ive had my period for 41 days it stopped for a week and is back...my dr sent me for alot of blood work but i couldnt pay the offic visit bill so i couldnt get the results

Dear Eunice: I understand you have had an ovary removed but I am unclear as to weather or not you are in menopause or not.

The initial blood work looks for correctable medical conditions such as iron deficiency, Vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid disease and hormone disorders.  At your age (in the 4th decade of life), an ultrasound also needs to be done to rule out surgical cases such at uterine fibroids and uterine cancer.  If the ultrasound is suspicious for cancer, your doctor may also perform an endometrial biopsy.

I am always saddned to hear when money is a barrier to good health.  Please enquire at a local non profit clinic if they perform the above tests. They are very important to investigate.
