Dear Ask The Doctor: What do I do with a child that has a temp. that goes up and down for 2 days? We have given her tylenol and motrin and it keeps going up and down. I am now worried do I take her to the hospital or wait until Monday?
Dear Amanda: I understand how concerned you are about your childs fever. It might be only due to an upper respiratory infection caused by a viral entity, depending on the other symptoms that might be observed.I agree with you that you should take your child to the Pediatrician. If the Fever does not subside for two days by now, a possibility of ear infection or urinary tract infection might need to be ruled out as well. Certainly a more detailed history and a physical examination might be needed to get the right diagnosis. I wish you the best. |
