Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a 13month old son and he has had a cold for three days. Hw had a fever for 24 hours but it is now gone. He has a bad cough and a sore throat. His throat is also so sore that he can't eat very well without coughing. Is there anything I can give him to relieve his sore throat?
Dear Paige: I understand your concern about your childs sore throat. In my opinion it looks like your child probably has a viral pharyngitis which is very common in children of that age and at this time of the year. You could treat his symptoms by using Childrens Tylenol, this would help him with the pain in his throat and other common cold and flu symptoms. You might also want to give him plenty of fluids and if his appetite is not good try using Pedyalite to rehydrate him. I am sure that once he is completely Hydrated his appetite will come back. I wish him a prompt recovery. |
