Fever in infant. |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My 14 month old son is experencing a fever, vomiting, and mucus in his diarrea. I have given him infant tyenol and he seems to be sleeping ok but he still has the fever! Dear Heather: I understand your worry about your son’s condition. Most commonly fever, vomits and diarrhea in children of this age is caused by a virus called Rotavirus. This virus have a process that last for a few days, in the meantime just treating for the symptoms like you have been doing so far would be the best way to treat it. For the fever I agree with you that Children’s Tylenol would be a good medication but also you could add physical methods such as baths with lukewarm water, and dressing him in light clothes. Also remember that children dehydrate faster than adults especially with fever, so keep him hydrated. If the diarrhea and vomits persist for more than 3 days it would be advisable to take him to the Pediatrician for a more detailed evaluation and management. I wish him a prompt recovery.
