Shin damage |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My 10 year old daughter hit her chin on our fire pit while running at full force. It is still swolen, brusing, and hurts. When lightly pressing on the area of the shin you can hear a grinding, crunching type of sound. Should I be worried? Dear Sindey: You have used the words "chin" and "shin" interchangeably so I am not sure to which bone you are referring. Therefore the response contains a treatment for both injuries. It seems your daughter may have broken the chin bone. She should have xrays done to confirm the diagnosis as well as determine if any other areas were significantly injured. Fortunately, unless the broken bone is affecting her chewing or the jaw has been seriously affected she will not need any major treatment. If she has broken her shin bone (leg bone) then she will need to have an xray done and the leg placed in a cast for about 12 weeks. |
