Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a heavy object fall on my toes couple of months ago. I went to a doctor and took x-rays nothing was showen. I only got pain killers for about a week. The pain is still there and know it is worse I have it on my ankle and knee. Everytime I walk, run or even climb steps it hurts. My foot also gets numb. Recentaly notice that when i bend my knee I happen to see a bump. What should I do??
Dear Consuelo: In the view that your X-rays did not show any bone lesion and you were evaluated by a physician, most likely you are experiencing sequels of the blast: pain and inflammation. The healing time is different for each patient, and also depends on the severity of the initial injury. The suggested strategy in your case should be: physical therapy aimed to stretch the muscles of the leg and foot, using ice packs after the exercise routine to decrease inflammation and pain, relative rest (avoiding activities that reproduce the pain), and use of anti inflammatory drugs (example: “Advil”). |
