Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a abscess of Bartholins Gland, it is very large,I have a cather in and they said I have to wear it four one month, when it comes out will i need stiches. How do they come and should I be worried that it will return.
Dear Gwendolyn: There are actually tiny glands on the vulva called Bartholin’s glands. Sometimes these glands swell and develop into cysts. These cysts can become infected leading to abscess. I note that you are on a number of medications for Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetics are prone to developing infections. When the catheter is removed you will not need any stitches. The catheter is placed so that a permanent tract is formed to prevent recurrence of the abscess. |
