Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Im 26 and have been diagnosed with a chest infection
I have no cough and am currently taking augmentin
My question is could it be more serious. If i dont have a cough
Thank you
PETER
Dear Peter: Common clinical features of a community acquired chest infection include cough, fever, pleuritic chest pain (worse on inhalation), shortness of breath and sputum production. Yellow or green sputum production is most frequently found in association with bacterial infection, while scant or watery sputum production is more suggestive of an atypical infection. If your infection is due to an atypical organism, Co-amoxiclav may not be sufficient antibiotic therapy. Therefore if your symptoms are not improving with current treatment, I would advise attending your family doctor for an alternative prescription. |
