Dear Ask The Doctor: I am British but live in Spain. I suffer from Arthritis and am awaiting a knee replacement. The Spanish Doctor has prescibed me Voltarol 100mg to be taken morning and evening and Metamizol cinfa 575mg to be taken 4 times a day. They both seem to have similar indications and I am worried this is an overload on my system. I also take Atenol 10mg for blood pressure which is currently stable. Helene
Dear Helene: Voltarol is an anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs) and Metamizol (dipyrone) is mainly analgesic. On the other hand, both are metabolized in the liver, what yo can do is reduce to 3 times a day dipyrone and continue morning and night with Voltarol. They do not interfere with Atenelol. |
