Ibuprofen and Gout medications

Dear Ask The Doctor: Is it safe to take ibuprofen with perscription gout medication, or is there some other pain pills I can take with the perscription gout pills?
Dear Sandy: Yes, there is no problem to take them together, but I suggest that you take them with meals, never with empty stomach, because ibuprofen can produce gastrointestinal side effects (upset stomach, gastritis, GI bleeding). Usually Ibuprofen or other anti inflammatory medication is associated to the gout drugs to control pain and inflammation during the crisis. |
