Dear Ask The Doctor: I had taken a DEPO shot December 29th. I had only taken the 1 shot. I have had scalp hair loss, acne and I just quit bleeding after having 7 weeks of bleeding. Is it normal having hair loss with this shot and what can I do about my hair being so thin because you can see my scalp in several places. Dear Linda: I comprehend your distress about Depo Provera shot. Certainly hair loss is not one of the most common side effects of this contraceptive method; however it is recognized as one of them. Acne and Lack of menses are also side effects of this medication. I understand how uncomfortable these could be and the best suggestion that I could give you is to consult your gynecologist for a different contraceptive method. Depo provera synthetic hormone would be cleared by your body and let me reassure you that your hair would grow again. I wish you the best. |
