Dear Ask The Doctor: If the typical dose of digoxin is 0.25mg every 6 h. how much 50mg/ml solution do i need for a 24 h supply
Dear Arronia: If the dose of digoxin is 0.25mg every 6 hours, in 24 hours the dose required is (0.25*4) = 1mg. If the solution of the drug is 50mg/ml then the amount required for a 24 hour period is (1/50) = 0.02ml. This may be difficult to measure because it is a very small quantity. Digoxin is usually prescribed in micrograms (mcg) and a solution with micrograms may be easier to measure and quantify for a 24 hour period. |
