Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been on Bactrim for five days to prevent infection from stitches. This morning, I woke up with a skin rash that has been spreading all day. I quit taking the medication, but was wondering if there is anything else I should do and also if I should try to get a different antibiotic for the last days of treatment. Dear Megan: If bactrim is the cause of the rash then discontinuing it will prevent any furhter rashes. An antihistamine medication may help with any itching you may have. You should try to get a different antibiotic since your doctor saw it fit for you to be on an antibiotic in the first place. |
