Dear Ask The Doctor: Sir i have taken zintac 300 mg tablets regularly for acidity problem, without dr advice for the past 6 years. so i want to know, the drugs was caused any side effects problem.
Dear Gajendra: Ranitidine (Zantac) may cause unwanted side-effects including heart block, rapid heart rate, agitation, confusion, depression, headache, although if you have been taking it for >6 years, you must tolerate this medication well. Long term therapy has been associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, and it should be used with caution in those with impaired kidney or liver function. I would therefore advise attending your family doctor for a check-up to exclude any vitamin deficiencies or dose adjustment that may be necessary. |
