Weight loss in type II diabetes

Dear Ask The Doctor: I currently take Metaformin. would there be any drug interactions if i started taking Relacore.
Dear Donna:I would not recommend administration of metformin and the weight loss aid relacore. This product claims to decrease cortisol levels in the body and thus reduce stress and "belly fat." However it is not licensed and there is no evidence to suggest it works. There are medications avaiIable on prescription that control both blood sugar levels in type II diabetes and stimulate weight loss. Liraglutide and exenatide are both FDA approved. They are Glucagon like Peptide -1 analogs that may be used in combination with metformin. These drugs promote weight loss, in part probably because of the high rate of gastrointestinal side-effects including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I would advise discussing these treatments with your family physician or endocrinologist to organise a weight loss regimen in type II diabetes mellitus. |
