Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been having a cough for the past few days. It started out I was coughing up mucous but now its just a dry cough. I feel like I'm trying to cough up my lungs at times. I've coughed so hard i've leaked and even my sides hurt a little. I was wondering what it could possibly be. I can't afford to go the dr right now.
Dear Nicole: I realize that you are concerned about your dry cough. According to you, first you started having a congested cough that turned into a dry cough within days. This could sound like you had an upper respiratory inflammation process but since you have hypertension and apparently you take Lisinopril, the dry cough could also be produced from a side effect by this medication.
I would suggest you to contact your physician for an evaluation of the dry cough and rule out the Lisinopril side effect, in the meantime you could try using home remedies and over the counter cough syrups that don’t contain Pseudoephedrine, please make sure that this is not part of the ingredients because it could increase your blood pressure. |
