Doxycycline and Azithromycin For Chlamydia Safe For Those with Penicillian Allergy |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Does doxycycline and Azithromycin contain penacillian ? i need to take a course of one of these anti biotics for a infection but i am allergic to penacillian if they both contain it is there anything i can take that does the same thing? Thanks Dear Mel: I understand your concern about Penicillin allergy and the use of alternative antibiotics. Both of the antibiotics that you mention Azithromycin and Doxycycline are safe to use as an alternative for the condition that you have. Penicillin allergy is an increased reaction from your immune system to penicillin and related antibiotics like cephalosporin. This type of overreaction may range from a rash to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition. The simplest way to prevent penicillin allergy is to avoid penicillin and related antibiotics. The two types of antibiotics that you mention belong to a different family with no relation to Penicillin. However I will suggest you to be evaluated by a health provider for the type of infection that you have and the best antibiotic to use on it, because treatment may vary. I hope you recover soon. |
