Angina treatment post-stenting

Dear Ask The Doctor: A friend of mine had a stint put in, he has never had angina, however, after the procedure he was put on ranexa and nitroglycerin, could you please tell me why
Dear Debra: Both Ranexa (Ranolazene) and Nitroglycerin are drugs used for the treatment of angina symptoms. If your friend is not having symptoms of angina after coronary artery stenting, and their BP is optimally controlled, there is really no indication for these medications. Your friend should therefore discuss with their cardiologist the need for these drugs and consider potentially stopping them, if there is no indication for continued usage. |
