Normal birth after ceasarian section

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi i'm pat. I had my first baby through ceasarian section. What are my chances of having my second baby through normal birth

Dear Patricia:

Depending on why you had your c section delivery you might or might not be able to have a vaginal delivery next time.

If your C section technique used a low transverse incision, vaginal delivery might not be compromised. Also if the reason why you had a C section the last time is not a factor this time and your pelvic evaluation is within the range I don’t see why you shouldn’t have a vaginal delivery this time. I would suggest discussing this option with your OBGYN to rule out any other factor that would contraindicate natural birth. I wish you a successful delivery.
