Getting pregnant after MMR shot

Dear Ask The Doctor: How long should I wait to get pregnant after a MMR shot?

Dear Sunny:

It is not recommended for women to receive the Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine during pregnancy due to a small risk to the fetus from administration of these live virus vaccines which cannot be excluded for theoretical reasons, therefore pregnancy should be avoided for 28 days after vaccination with measles or mumps vaccines or MMR or other rubella-containing vaccines. I wish you the best.
