Dear Ask The Doctor: I am pregnant 21 weeks on wednesday and I have a cerclage in because i had a 1.26 cervix and now with the cerclage its 1.7, would i be able to have sex anytime soon? Dear Nicole: Certainly if you had a cerclage procedure, your health care provider might have already explained you about your risk for abortion due to cervical incompetence. Cervical cerclage helps prevent miscarriage or premature labor caused by cervical incompetence and is done when true cervical incompetence exists. Usually abstinence from sexual intercourse is often recommended for a few weeks after the procedure, but this will vary depending on your progress. Also lifting heavy weights are not recommended. |
