False postive pregnancy test with minocycline?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi i am taking minocycline for my acne and have stopped the pill 1 month ago.i just took a pregnancy test and it was positive can it be affected by this?

Dear Van: Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that is used in the treatment of acne. Minocycline does not cause the pregnancy test to be positive.

The use of minocycline is contraindicated in pregnancy  because it could harm the fetus and cause permanent tooth discoloration later in life.
