Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been taking microgynon 30 for the last 2 years and this has never happened before (that i can remember). i went away last weekend and forgot my pill, so missed three days worth. When i got home i took all the days i missed and carried on as normal but i came on my period! (i assumed this was because of the missed pills) i have been taking the pills as normal for the last couple days but i'm still bleeding, i still have 12 days to go on this pack. Should i carry on taking them and see if the bleeding stops, if so how long will it take to stop?! or should i have a break and then start again?! Really confused!
Dear Stephanie: If more than 3 doses are missed, you need to stop taking the old cycle pills and start a new cycle of pills. Also you may need you use additional birth control method (condoms) till upto the last 7 days of the pill. It is common to experience periods within the month. But since your periods have begun and you are still on your old pills, I would suggest you visit your doctor for advice. Your doctor may advice starting a new cycle and using additional mode of protection. |
