Long term side effects of taking oral contraceptive pills?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Good evening doctor, I am a married 35 yrs old woman. I am 5.3" and 76 kgs. I'm having problems in my mensural right from the begining. I was continuous treatment till my marriage i.e., 8th september'05. After marriage I went for fertility treatment. I've undergone laproscopic in 2007 and IVF in Nov'2008. Doctors tried for IUI, but failed. I won't get my periods till i take a pill. I will feel short breath or uncomfortness in breathing if I didn't take pills for more than 2 months. So I am taking Ovarl L, if I feel discomfort after 2 or 3 months after my periods. My question is Is it harm in taking Ovarl L continously like this? Will I get any disease if I continue the same. Please need your reply. thanks and regards... Banu

Dear Banumathy: Ovral L is a monophasic,  low dose combination of Levonorgestrel and Ethinylestradiol Tablets I.P. used to prevent pregnancy. There is no long term side effects of taking the drug.  The minor side effects of the drug may include mild nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach cramps, increased hair growth and changes in weight or appetite.
