Dear Ask The Doctor: What is the treatment for amnenorrhea i have no hermonal problems or polycystic ovaries iam 22 years old and i am married .
Dear Alaa: The treatment of amenorrhea depends on the underlying condition. There are two types of amenorrhea, primary and secondary. Primary Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation buy age 18 and secondary amenorrhea occurs when a women who has had a previous normal menstrual cycle stops getting her periods for 6 months or more. A wide variety of factors can be responsible for amenorrhea such as weight gain or loss, over-exercise, poor nutrition, smoking, caffeine, eating disorders, increased stress and polycystic ovarian syndrome/estrogen dominance or other conditions that interfere with estrogen metabolism.
Once pregnancy has been ruled out as the cause of amenorrhea, treatment will consist of a complete physical and evaluations of the thyroid function. Also, a complete blood count (CBC), pelvic exam, abdominal and pelvic ultrasound may be done to get a better picture of what is the underlying cause of the amenorrhea. |
