Is Skipping Normal? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a baby in August of 2010, didn't breastfeed, and my period returned in Novemeber. I got one at the same time in December, but so far into January, I haven't gotten one. Is it normal to have two and then skip one after you have a baby? Dear Lindsay: Let me reassure you that after delivering a baby, most women that don’t breastfeed usually start menstruating as early as 4 to 6 months; however the hormones need to balance again for each cycle. Ovulation might not be present during the first cycles and that could be the cause of your intermittent menstruation. I would suggest you not to worry and watch for the next couple of cycles. If your menses don’t show, the first diagnosis to rule out is pregnancy, when this is not an option other causes of hormonal imbalance might need to be studied by your gynecologist. I wish you the best. |
