Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm 15 and i'm not getting my period anymore. When i first go it last year, it was very unpredictable, i may get it for 2 days really heavily then next month 2 weeks lightly, then i didn't get it until every second month and now I've stopped having it whatsoever. why is that happening.
Dear Rachael: You are having something called secondary Amenorhea ie loss or irregular periods afte a time of having normal periods. The causes can be varied. Initially in the first few years after starting your period ie Menarche the cycles are irregular as no ovulation occurs. However other causes could be polycyctic ovarian syndrome, stress, thyroid problems, hormonal imbalance, medications etc. You need to see a physician in person for a more detailed history and a physcial examination along with an ultrasound of your pelvis and hormonal blood levels so that we can get a better idea of what is going on. All the best. |
