Dear Ask The Doctor: Dear Doctor my wife is 34 years and we do not stay together because of work committments. we visit each other every more often. her month period is almost at the beginning of a new month.the problem is that she menstruate each time l leave even though she would have had one a week before l come. she wants to concive and will it be possible? she does not bleed after intercourse and she is not on pill.
Dear Thando: I believe you and your wife are trying to conceive and it is a little frustrating if the only time you spend with each other, she will have her period. You should ask your doctor first if she can use contraceptives. There are 21-day pills and 28-day pills. If your doctor agrees to prescribe her with contraceptive pills, then she may take the 21 day pill (21 pills with hormones) then restart the pill 4 days after the last pill (instead of one week after the last). This way, her periods will have a shorter duration. If you want to conceive, try having sex on the 10th to 20th day from her LMP (last menstrual period or Day 1 of previous period) because this will be the time she is very fertile, hence higher chances of conceiving. Also, have sex every other day, not overy day, because it will take 2 days for the testicles to regenerate sperm cells (higher sperm count per ejaculate). I wish you both all the best and take care. |
