Do Contraceptive Pills Cause Menstrual Irregularities?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a baby Novemeber 8th and am breastfeeding. I started taking Micronor in January and got my period in February. It lasted about a week. Then two weeks later I had it again for a week and havent had it since. So about 4 months. I have taken a pregnancy test and it was negative. Is it just the pills that are making me not have a period or something else? I dont feel sick or anything, I feel how I use to before the pregnancy.
Dear Morgan: The most common side effect of contraceptive pills are menstrual irregularities. It is possible that is caused by Micronor. Home pregnancy tests are not100% accurate. Better consult your OB Gyn or see a doctor to have a blood pregnancy test, or better yet, an ultrasound. Its better to make sure you are not pregnant because contraceptive use is contrainidcated in pregnancy. I hope this helps. |
