How to delay a menstrual period

Dear Ask The Doctor: How can i stop my menstruation before it come or after it come?
Use of birth control pills can shorten the duration of your menstruation. For 21-day pills, there are 21 hormone containing (active) pills (taken daily) then a period of 7 pill-free days (or 7 inactive pills with no hormone) will follow before starting another pack. You may try having 3 or 4 pill-free days then start another pack to shorten the duration. If you want to delay your period, start another pack after the 21st active pill. It is noteworthy that you may still have breakthrough bleeding (vaginal spotting) around the time you will start the 2nd pack. You should ask a prescription from a doctor if you do plan on being on the pill because there are also precautions in women >35 y.o. I do hope I have answered your question and I hope this helps. |
