Dear Ask The Doctor: Is it normal for a 17 yr old, who has regular periods, to be 8 days late, then when I finally receive it, my period of very light and only lasts one day? Should I seek medical treatment? Dear Cierra:Many a times early on after menarche females experince irregular as well as decreased amount and duration of periods. This is because in the initial stages the cycles are anovulatory ie the egg is not released. However if you are sexually active then i would advice a pregnancy test to be done.Also we then need to rule out other causes like thyroid issues, low weight, PCOs etc which may also cause these symptoms.
