Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 21, normally healthy regular periods. I had unprotected sex during my period at the beginning of August. Around 2-3 weeks later i began to spot bleed for a few days. I then had my next period at the end of September, i had no period at all during the month of October and i hve just began to lightly bleed now. I took a home pregnancy test at the end of August and it was negative. I generally feel bloated, tired, and have occaisonaly recently developed a pain in my left side of my ribs which i can only ease by laying on that side... I am worried as developing signs of pregnancy, could i be pregnant? Dear Natalie: Though there may be a chance that you are pregnant, they are minimal. To confirm pregnancy, the best period to do a urine pregnancy test is 2 weeks after the unprotected test. The test should be done in the morning. If your symptoms worsen, I would advise you to see your doctor and to see whether the pain is due to dysmenorrhea/menstrual cramps or premenstrual syndrome. |
