Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello sir, I am a 17 year old girl. I have my menstrual cycle on the fifth 5th of every month. It so happened that my boy friend and i had outercourse (Where our genitals just rubbed over each others and he did not ejaculate maybe there was some pre ejaculatory fluid) right after my periods i.e 13th of Nov but as a precaution i took the ECP ipill and my periods started again within the next two days and ended on 22nd of Nov. We then again did a similar thing on the 30th of Dec and he used protection( he did not ejaculate even this time) But we have a doubt that he must have had some precum and it must have escaped from below the condom as he got a little limp (I did not take ECP this time). Anyway, my main problem is that my regular period has'nt started again on the 5th of this month and today is 9th. What do you make of it?
Dear Saman: Emergency contraception prevents pregnancy after sex has occurred. They work by changing a woman's hormone levels. This prevents pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation or by disrupting egg and sperm transport, fertilization, or implantation. Emergency contraceptive pills are not as effective as other contraceptive methods.
I do understand your concern for pregnancy due to the delayed period. If your next period after taking this medicine is more than seven days late, or is abnormal in any way, I would suggest that you do a urine pregnancy test to see if the missed period is due to pregnancy. |
