Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I have missed period my for 15 days now. Last it started on was 28th October 2011. I was supposed to get them on 28th November but did not. on 5th November me and my boyfriend got close, but we did not have intercourse. Now i have missed my for 15 days nows. I am very scared. On Monday i went to the doctor and got a urine test done it was negative. the doctor has advised me to take Meprate for 5 days and said i will get my periods. Dear Sweet: There are many causes of delayed periods. The most common cause of a delayed period is pregnancy but since you've tested negative, we can rule that you. Other causes are stress, hormonal imbalance, anemia, any illness and excessive exercise. Your periods should start once you've completed taking meprate (progestin). if you still do not have your periods, I would advise further evalutaion by your doctor with investigations like a complete blood count, thyroid and liver function tests, hormonal studies and ultrasound abdomen. |
