Dear Ask The Doctor: I am Currently taking microgynon pill, and still use condoms when having sex with my partner, however a few weeks ago the condom split so I took levonelle one step just to be sure. I finished taking my pack of pills on sunday, so I should have come on my period by now, The pharmacist explained that taking levonelle one step could delay my period, however I am just wondering how soon I can take a pregnancy test?
Dear Amy: Home pregnancy tests pick up the level of Beta HCG in the urine. Typically while some tests can pick up a lower level of this hormone early on the best time to carry out this test is about 5-7 days after a missed period. Thus a negative test may not mean that pregnancy is not present but may just indicate that the level of the hormone is too low to be detected by the test if done early on. You can thus repeat the same. Also keep a look out for signs of pregnancy like breast tenderness, frequent urination, mood changes, general weakness and fatigue. However since you took levonelle the probability of you being pregnant may be minimal. |
