Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello Doctor Really not sure whats going on with my body. Took three urine test after seeing I never had a period sence the middle of Dec.(It is now early march still nothing) All the test were negative, only problem is,,,,,,I have to go to the bathroom alot now and even when i hold it in a little longer I get pains. Plus, I sqeezed my chest and this clear and white discharge came out..So despite what the test say could I still be pregnant? Dear Bianca: I understand your concern. Usually a pregnancy test will pick up the levels of Beta hcg in the urine as early as 5-7 days after a missed period. Thus is it usually very accurate. Since you have done the test a number of times and still got a negative result it means that mostly pregnancy is not the cause. There are other causes of missed periods and breast discharge. The main one beng prolactinoma : a mass that is in the brain which secretes the hormone prolactin leading to milky discharge from the breast along with cessation of periods. Also thyroid issues,medications, stress, PCOS, hormonal disbalance can all lead to absence or irregular periods. You need to see your family physician for a complete physical examination and more tests inorder to find out the cause and also rule out a possible pregnancy with a blood beta hcg level and ultrasound.
